Choosing What Type of Essay Suits Your Purpose

After one has chosen a particular topic for an essay, it is important to decide what type or style of essay best suits the topic. It is a mistake to assume all essay types are the same. The wrong choice could leave your paper incomprehensible and inconsistent. Some examples of essay types are the argumentative essay, sample essay and critical essay. Each one conforms to a particular purpose and position that the writer takes with regards to his or her topic.

The argumentative essay is best suited when the writer takes a position contrary to the idea of his subject. It aims to disprove the point of your subject and make the reader subscribe to the writer’s own contrasting view. Sample essays on the other hand are much like an academic paper where a thesis statement is proven by supporting examples on the subject. A critical essay is a presentation of the subject reading and an evaluation of the work views in a factual and rational manner, aimed to make the reader understand the point of view and actions of the subject reading.

Obviously, the three examples are very different approaches and one type may not be used as effectively for certain topics as the others. In effect, a great deal of studying the topic and subject must first be done by the writer before he or she can even begin the writing process. As a guide, the writer may consult an adviser or check out essay writing help sites online to get an idea of which approach is best for the topic.
